Bethan’s Cuban Experience

Last month I had the chance to visit the stunning island of Cuba! First stop was Havana which is the most beautiful city I have visited and its crumbling facade really adds to the beauty of this amazing destination. The morning after we got there went on a walking city tour of the Old Town which was a great way to explore the narrow streets filled with art work, quirky bars, restaurants and the locals playing music on the street. Everywhere you look is like a post card; you could spend hours wandering the streets without seeing the same thing twice!

After lunch we visited a variety of Casas which are privately owned accommodation that equates to a B&B. They are different to hotels as they are owned by local Cubans who run them and in some of them, the locals even live in the same building which is a great way to experience Havana like the locals do!

The highlight of my trip was definitely taking a ride in the 1950’s vintage American cars which is a must do when visiting Havana! 5 cars, all different colours and models came to pick us up from our hotel then the 2 hour city tour started. They drove us around the city taking us to all the iconic sights not to be missed including Revolution Square, John Lennon Park, Christ of Havana, the Malecon and many more. We also got the chance to watch the Tropicana Cabaret filled with dancing and singing from over 100 dancers under the stars in the open air theatre which is a fab night out!

After spending 4 nights in Havana we took the 2 hour transfer to Varadero for some much needed beach time after the city! Varadero is a stunning beach destination with miles of white sand beach and turquoise water. It is the perfect place to unwind and relax with a mojito or two! There are many activities to do such as diving, snorkeling, deep sea fishing and many opportunities to play golf whilst staying in Varadero or simply choose to relax on the beach.

I would definitely recommend doing a twin centre in Cuba as you get to experience the best of both city & beach the country has to offer!
