Cockermouth Travel follows the paper trail
Cockermouth Travel in Cumbria is going green by switching from plastic non-biodegradable carrier bags to paper bags, as modelled here by the team. The agency has also just planted 1,000 trees at Cockermouth School to help offset clients’ carbon emissions. Cockermouth Travel reopened last year with a fresh new look after the shop was destroyed by severe flooding in 2009. Managing director Paul Cusack said: “We’d like to cajole, shame and persuade other agents in the UK to follow suit and do their bit to go green.”
Firm goes green with paper
A Cockermouth travel agents has introduced paper bags in its shop as part of a project to encourage 700 other travel agents around the country to go green.
Cockermouth Travel, on Main Street, will offer the dark grey paper bags to any customers taking away brochures or information.
Owner Paul Cusack decided to do away with the shop's plastic bags because they were not biodegradable.
As part of the going green project Cockermouth Travel also providing funding so Cockermouth School could plant trees around the school.
Mr Cusack said "We decided to do this to encourage others to go green. If plastic bags go into landfill it would take years before they broke down. We are really happy with the look of the bags and have had really good feedback from our clients and other businesses."
